Area Information for Bernardsville, New Jersey

Located in Somerset County, New Jersey, Bernardsville is a affluent borough with the 10th highest per capita income in the state.

As of the 2010 Census, the community had a population of just 7,707, although it ranks 75th among the 100 highest-income places in the country.

Bernardsville was created from portions of Bernards Township known as Vealtown.  It was officially incorporated in 1924.

The community is named after Sir Francis Bernard, who served as the governor of New Jersey from 1758 to 1760.

Over the years, Bernardsville has been home to many famous people, including fashion designer Marc Ecko, former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and actress Meryl Streep.

Education in Bernardsville

Residents in this New Jersey community are served by an exceptional public school system.  The Somerset Hills Regional School District serves students from pre-k to 12th grade.

The district, which also serves Far Hills and Peapack-Gladstone, includes such high-performing schools as:

  • Bedwell Elementary School
  • Bernardsville Middle School
  • Bernards High School

There are also a number of top notch private schools in the area, including the Palmer School and the School of Saint Elizabeth.
