Area Information on Denville, New Jersey

Denville is a New Jersey township located in Morris County. As of the 2010 Census, this vibrant community had a population of about 16,635 residents.

The community was first formed as a township in April 1913 using portion of Rockaway Township.

Its name was formed in honor of Daniel Denton, an early land investor in the area during the 1600s.

Today, the 12.6 square mile community is considered the “Hub of Morris County.” That’s because Denville is located along several major transportation routes, including Routes 10 and 53, U.S. Routes 46 and Interstate 80.

Denville is also well-known among sports circles for being the birthplace of American flag rugby.

Relocating to Denville, NJ

Denville is well known for its expansive collection of bodies of water. In fact, the community has 11 named bodies of water, including:

  • Cedar Lake 
  • Indian Lake
  • Rock Ridge
  • Lake Arrowhead
  • Estling Lake

Over the years, a number of high end residential communities have cropped up around these major lakes.

Other lakes that are located within Denville include Cooper Lake, Hollstein Lake and Openaki Lake.

School-aged residents living in Denville area zoned for the Denville Township School District, which serves students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade.

The district includes such award-winning schools as:

  • Lakeview School
  • Riverview School
  • Valleyview Middle School

Once students reach the ninth grade, they attend Morris Knolls High School, which is part of the Morris Hills Regional High School District.

That district also serves Rockaway Borough, Rockaway Township and Wharton.

Several private schools are also within a short driving distance of Denville as well, including St. Mary’s Prep.

As with most of the communities in the surroudnign area, Denville is served by New Jersey Transit, which offers service to Hoboken Terminal, Penn Station and other popular desinations.

In addition, Lakeland Bus Lines offers residents transportation to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan.

And the Newark Liberty International Office is just half an hour southeast of Denville.
